ADAS Windshield Recalibration

Why recalibration is not optional

Advanced driver assistance systems read the road through a camera mounted to the windshield, sometimes paired with radar behind the grille. The camera is aimed to the manufacturer's specification at the factory, referenced to the exact position of the glass it is bonded to.

Replace the glass and that reference moves. Even a perfect installation shifts the camera slightly, and a small angular error at the lens becomes a large positioning error at 100 metres. Left uncalibrated, lane keeping can drift, automatic braking can read distance wrong, and the dash may or may not warn you about it. Most manufacturers require recalibration after any windshield replacement.

Static, dynamic, and dual calibration

Which procedure your vehicle needs is set by the manufacturer, not by us. We look it up by VIN before the appointment.

• Static calibration. Performed indoors on level floor with a marked target board set at a measured distance and height. Needs controlled light and space.
• Dynamic calibration. Performed on the road at a required speed on clearly marked lanes while the scan tool runs the routine. I-182 and SR 240 work well for this.
• Dual. Some vehicles require the static procedure followed by a road drive to complete. Toyota, Honda, Subaru, and many late-model trucks are common examples.

What you get afterward

We run the scan tool before and after, clear related fault codes, confirm each system reports ready, and give you the printed pre- and post-scan report. Keep it. If you ever have a collision claim, documentation that the safety systems were calibrated to spec after the glass work matters.

Recalibration is included in the quote when we replace a windshield on an ADAS-equipped vehicle. We also recalibrate for customers whose glass was replaced elsewhere and left uncalibrated — that call comes in more often than it should.
