When replacement is the right call

A windshield is a structural part of your vehicle. It supports the roof in a rollover and it is the backstop the passenger airbag inflates against. That is why the repair-or-replace line is not about looks. If the damage compromises the laminate, the glass has to be replaced.

We replace rather than repair when a crack runs longer than about six inches, when damage sits in the driver's primary line of sight, when a chip has spread to the edge of the glass, or when there are three or more separate impact points. If your damage is smaller than that, say so on the phone — a resin repair costs a fraction of a replacement and we would rather do the cheaper job.

How a mobile replacement works

The whole job runs 60 to 90 minutes for most vehicles. You do not need to be standing there for it, but the car does need to stay put afterward while the urethane cures.

  • Verify the part. We match your VIN to the correct glass — rain sensor, heated wiper park, acoustic interlayer, camera bracket, and tint band all change the part number.
  • Protect the vehicle. Fenders, dash, and cowl get covered before anything is cut.
  • Cut out the old glass. The old urethane bead is cut and trimmed back to a clean, even base.
  • Prime and set. Fresh primer on the pinchweld and the glass, then a continuous urethane bead and a set into the opening.
  • Reinstall and recalibrate. Moldings, cowl, mirror, and sensors go back on. Vehicles with a forward-facing camera get ADAS recalibration.
  • Safe drive-away time. We tell you the exact wait before the car is safe to drive, based on the adhesive and the weather that day.

Glass quality and what we install

We install OEM-equivalent glass built to the same fit, thickness, optical clarity, and safety specification as the piece that left the factory. OEM-branded glass is available on request when a vehicle or an insurer requires it — tell us and we will price both.

Every replacement is backed by our lifetime workmanship warranty. If a seal leaks, whistles, or the trim lifts, we come back and make it right at no charge.

Cost and insurance

Price depends on the vehicle and the glass features. A base windshield on an older sedan is one of the least expensive jobs we do; a late-model truck with a heated, acoustic, camera-equipped windshield sits at the other end because the part itself costs more and the job includes recalibration.

Most comprehensive policies cover glass. Washington does not require insurers to waive the deductible on glass claims, but many policies carry a separate, lower glass deductible — worth checking before you pay out of pocket. We bill carriers directly. See how the claim process works.

Frequently asked

How long until I can drive after a windshield replacement?+
Most vehicles are safe to drive within an hour of the set, but the exact safe drive-away time depends on the adhesive and the temperature and humidity that day. We give you a specific time before we leave — not a guess.
Will my new windshield leak?+
It should not, and if it does we fix it free. A properly prepped pinchweld and a continuous urethane bead is what prevents leaks and wind noise. Skipping primer or reusing a dirty bond line is what causes them.
Can you replace a windshield in cold or windy weather?+
Usually yes. Urethane cures more slowly in cold weather, so the safe drive-away time gets longer. In heavy rain or high wind we will ask to work in your garage or reschedule — a contaminated bond line is not worth the convenience.
Do I need to do anything after the replacement?+
Leave the retention tape on for a day, avoid automatic car washes for 48 hours, and crack a window when you shut the doors for the first day so pressure does not push against the fresh seal.
